Porsche Parade Results

Donna and I have just returned home from the 2010 Porsche Parade held July 3 – 9, 2010 in St. Charles, Illinois. For us it was another really fun parade socializing with all the friends from across the country that we know.

At the Board of Directors meeting, the three issues up for vote all passed by a wide margin. The first issue consists of a dues increase starting January 1, 2011 from $42 per year to $46 per year. The second creates an Ad-Hoc Committee to review member suspension appeals. The third issue approves spending up to $950k of PCA reserve funds if it is decided that it would be more beneficial to buy headquarter office space rather than lease.

The First Settlers Region did well in the competitions at the Parade. Our Region won 1st Place in the 2010 PCA National Website Competition Class IV (consists of Regions having 400 to 799 members). Thank you Marco Estrada, our Webmeister! Andrew Chisholm won 1st place in the Early 911 Technical Quiz competition. Congratulations Andrew! And finally, Donna and I won 2nd place in Concours in our class (PP04T).

Donna and I have recently made a big decision. We purchased a new home in Murrells Inlet, SC. and then sold our home in Williamsburg, VA, much sooner than anticipated and have moved to our South Carolina home as of the end of May. As such I must step down as President of the First Settlers Region and Donna from her Assistant Vice President position. We have enjoyed very much serving on the FSR Board and working for you, the members of our Region. We have made many new friends and will miss you all.

I feel that I have accomplished the goals that I set out to do during my tenure as President. These goals were to have a 50th Anniversary celebration, to increase our charity efforts, to update the Region’s By-Laws, to establish proper accounting procedures, and to increase the number and types of events available for the members.

Dave McFaddin will serve as your interim President for the remainder of the year.

Donna and I will now be members of the Hurricane Region and will be a lot closer to the next Porsche Parade in 2011 in Savannah, GA. We hope to see you there and at other Region and National events in the future. Drive safe and have fun!

Dave Conklin
