I think the dealership is trying to fleece me on changing the alternator on my 997. They are not happy with me because they wanted me to pay $1200.00 for a new alternator. I found a new one online for $320.00 and had it shipped to them over night. Now they are telling me that it will take another day because they are waiting for a gasket that the alternator mounts to. They cannot use the gasket they took off becasue they say it will leak. What gasket? I have changed alternators before and there was no liquids or gaskets involved in any way. Can someone out there offer some advice please? Thank you.

Hi Scott,

I called John at Racewerks to get you an answer on this. There are a number of cars out there that, believe it or not, do have water cooled alternators. Yep, I was surprised too. BUT the 997 is not one of them. So the gasket can't be for your all-electrical alternator. What might have occurred, however, is that they removed something else to facilitate removal of the alternator...not sure. Either way, something to ask them. Good luck!
