Our first annual Turkeys in the Trunk charity event in support of the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia's Mayflower Marathon Thanksgiving food drive was a considerable success. Through the generosity of members who attended and contributed to the effort, FSR collectively donated over 3,100 pounds of food. The money and food donated by FSR members, to include proceeds from the Air & Auto Classic car show in October, will be turned into over 15,000 meals for those in need this Thanksiving.

The day began at Checkered Flag Porsche, where over 70 FSR members gathered, had their donations weighed and enjoyed lunch courtesy of the dealership. The Porsche Varsity Jacket went to the McDaneld family for bringing an amazing 366 pounds of food, all stuffed in the back of a 944... can you say low-rider? The 44 car strong caravan of Porsches, led by a shiny new Panamera 4 (in Carerra White, no less), from Checkered Flag to the food drive location at Pembroke Mall was quite a sight, and we were welcomed with cheers as we lined up to unload our trunks and present the Air & Auto Classic donation check.

From there, the group proceeded to visit the Lisners' garage and associated fleet of fabulous cars, all suitable for drooling. The Pirkles' place was next, where folks enjoyed checking out another swanky garage and Kevin's race simulator. Word is that there was some virtual carnage at VIR. Finally, about 50 folks stuck it out long enough to make it to the Michaels' garage for heavy hors d'oeuvres and refreshments.
Many thanks to all who attended and donated their time and trunks of food, to Checkered Flag Porsche for their hospitality, generosity (the Varisty Jacket) and for treating us to lunch, and to the Lisners, Pirkles and Michaels for offering their garages for our perusal and enjoyment.
We look forward to next year's event... Mark your calendars for 19 November 2011 now!
