Horizontally Opposed - September/October 2016

September has arrived. Did the summer go by as quickly for you as it did for me? I love summer and its myriad of fun activities but also welcome the return of cooler and less humid weather that autumn brings. I hope you have had a chance to enjoy your Porsche(s) and some of the great FSRs activities this year. If not, there are still plenty of opportunities to join in on the fun.
FSR continues to grow, and I am thrilled by the amount of Porsche enthusiasm and it is always fun meeting new members at our events. our roster now includes nearly 681 primary members and 384 affiliate members. We have 66 new members so far this year which is getting close to
the record of 110 we had joined in 2015.
our 1083 members reside in over 150 different cities in our region with Virginia Beach claiming the most with 225, followed by Chesapeake with 106, and Richmond coming in with 100. As you might have guessed the 911 is the most popular model with 388 ranging in years from 1965 to the current model year. Boxsters come in at 109, Caymans at 63, 14 Cayenne’s, with Macans and Panameras being tied at eight each, and all the others making up the rest with the oldest listed being a 1949 356. Blank is the most favorite color; seriously 525 members left the color of their car blank. Black is the most popular color, followed by silver, white, and then red. With the most interesting listed as “Ticket Me” red.
We are approaching that time of year again for elections, and our nominating committee will be announced soon. Many of us on the board including myself have reached our term limit. So now is the time to toss your name in the hat, have some friendly competition, and serve your club as an officer or Committee Chair. Remember this is your club and we are always looking for new ideas and to fill the termed-out board positions or to just give others a break and to keep them from becoming burned out. The continued success of your club depends on volunteers ranging from event chairs to your board of directors. If you have participated in any of our charity events, De’s, fun-runs, or other events you have seen first-hand the effort being put into organizing these events. If you have any questions or would like more information about a particular position please contact any board member or myself.
School is back in session and I urge you to slow down and use caution as students return to school along with being aware of your local school zones and their speed limits. Remember it is not only school buses and children to be looking out for, but also the student driver who will be on the road driving to high school for the first time and is not accustomed to the hazards of everyday driving as many us may be. Daylight is getting shorter and this is an especially important time to check your driving behavior and ensure you are practicing the safest driving habits.
Seize the day – there is no time like the present to enjoy your Porsche. See you on the road!
Jason
