After the Eastern Region Breakfast

Join us for a fun run to the Outer Banks – just in time to beat the summer tourist rush – and to visit the historic site of the first successful airplane flight!

We will leave Pops Diner in Chesapeake at 11:00 AM, after the usual Eastern Region breakfast, and head south towards Kitty Hawk and the Outer Banks. We’ll plan a stop along the way, but expect to be at the Wright Brothers National Memorial at about 1:00 PM.

The site includes a visitor center with full-scale reproductions of the Wright Brothers 1902 glider and the 1903 Wright flyer – the world’s first successful powered airplane. There are also exhibits and movies depicting this historic site. The park offers some great views from the top Big Kill Devil Hill – the site where Wilbur and Orville conducted their glider experiments.

Entrance to the National Park costs $4/person. Admittedly, the park doesn’t have many exhibits and an hour should be plenty of time for us to spend there. We will plan to make the very short drive to the Outer Banks Brewing Station for a late lunch and to sample some of their micro-brews! The dining is casual and we’ll order and pay-as-we-go from the menu.

There is no advance charge for this event but would like those interested to sign up via Motorsportreg.com to give us a head count. You can sign up for just the drive if you choose not to stay for lunch.

Hope to see you on the road to OBX!!
